How do we ensure that Europe’s green transition is not only sustainable, but also inclusive, attractive and rooted in citizens’ everyday lives?

This is the question at the heart of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), a European Commission initiative that brings together sustainability, inclusion and aesthetics to create better places to live.

As the leading KIC of the EIT Community NEB, EIT Urban Mobility joined the NEB Festival 2026 in Brussels to showcase how these principles are being translated into real projects, start-ups and community-led initiatives across Europe.

For the EIT Urban Mobility community, the NEB represents more than a policy initiative. It is a growing ecosystem of funding opportunities, innovation programmes, cities, citizens and partners working on the future of sustainable urban living.

Throughout the NEB Festival 2026, the EIT Community NEB demonstrated this opportunity through activities including:

  • The NEB Innovation Arena, showcasing start-ups developing solutions aligned with NEB values
  • A Mini Ignite NEB Co-Creation Lab, where citizens collaboratively tackled a local challenge
  • An interactive booth connecting visitors with funding opportunities, projects and pathways into the NEB ecosystem
  • The first EIT Community NEB Alumni Gathering, bringing together innovators, entrepreneurs, municipalities and community leaders from across Europe

Since 2021, the EIT Community NEB has supported hundreds of innovators, citizens, entrepreneurs and organisations through programmes spanning citizen ideation, project support and start-up acceleration.

As cities increasingly seek solutions that combine climate action with quality of life, community engagement and social inclusion, the New European Bauhaus offers a unique platform for collaboration and innovation.
