Improved collection and use of mobility data can make our transport systems more efficient, safer, and more sustainable. Mobility Data Spaces will facilitate the voluntary, sovereign, and secure sharing of data to enable new public and commercial business models and services while respecting usage control and privacy for data owners.

This study explores the foreseen challenges in developing, deploying, and operating mobility data spaces, analysing the commercialisation aspects of transitioning from conceptual design, to piloted innovation, to a sustainable, in-production service model. Based on an expert survey and stakeholder interviews, the study outlines key recommendations for the private sector, for cities and regions, as well as for national and European decision-makers.

Building on EIT Urban Mobility’s experience in the field thanks to its Special Interest Group on Mobility Data Spaces and initiatives like PrepDSpace4Mobility and deployEMDS, this study has been written by MDS experts from Factual and i2CAT.
