3 June 2025

Adriana Diaz and Fernando Liesa signing an MoU

EIT Urban Mobility and the Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe (ALICE) have formalised their strategic cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Signed by Adriana Diaz, Innovation Director at EIT Urban Mobility, and Fernando Liesa, Secretary General of ALICE, during a ceremony at the Transport Logistic event, it marks a milestone in the organisation’s shared mission to drive forward innovation in urban logistics and sustainable mobility across Europe. EIT Urban Mobility is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.

With over 190 members, ALICE connects companies, research centres, and policymakers to develop innovative solutions for zero-emission, automated, efficient, and resilient supply chains with the goal of achieving the twin transition to zero emission and digitalisation of logistics in an affordable way boosting European competitiveness.

The partnership between ALICE and EIT Urban Mobility builds on their successful history of collaboration since 2020 and is grounded in a shared vision of tackling pollution, congestion, safety, and climate challenges through joint innovation and policy leadership. Through this MoU, both organisations commit to cooperation that enhances the exchange of knowledge, identification and support of innovation projects, influential reference for urban logistics innovation and collective policy advocacy on research, development and innovation needs.

“By joining forces with ALICE, we are strengthening our joint efforts to support the transformation of urban freight transport. Through collaboration within our innovation community, we can better respond to the pressing challenges European cities face” said Adriana Diaz, Innovation Director at EIT Urban Mobility.

“This Memorandum of Understanding opens a new chapter in our long-standing collaboration with EIT Urban Mobility. By connecting ALICE’s logistics innovation network with EIT’s ecosystem of cities and urban mobility actors, we are strengthening our joint capacity to accelerate sustainable and efficient urban logistics, fully aligned with ALICE’s mission to drive innovation in freight transport.,” added Fernando Liesa, Secretary General of ALICE.

The MoU outlines a comprehensive framework to

  • Enhance strategic dialogue between both organisations as European references for urban logistics innovation.
  • Advocate jointly on R&D&I needs for decarbonising road freight and improving urban logistics.
  • Promote shared knowledge, funding opportunities, and successful policies through events, publications, and digital platforms.
  • Align urban logistics priorities, fostering common positions on key European R&I topics.

By aligning networks, this MoU represents a significant milestone in uniting public and private stakeholders to reshape urban logistics. It marks a step forward in delivering on the European Green Deal and Digital Strategy objectives, contributing to more liveable, resilient, and connected urban environments.
