BMW iX5 Hydrogen, lands at the Green Gas Mobility Summit with the ACTIVA H2 project

25 June 2025

BMW iX5 Hydrogen Vehicle

The ACTIVA H2 project, co-funded by EIT Urban Mobility and led by Renewable Green Hydrogen (HVR Energy), Wolftank Iberia and the BMW Group, seeks to mark a new milestone in green hydrogen-powered mobility.

Madrid, June 25, 2025

The ACTIVA H2 project, co-financed by EIT Urban Mobility and led by Renewable Green Hydrogen (HVR Energy), Wolftank Iberia and the BMW Group, will present its innovative hydrogen refueling solution on June 25 and 26 in Madrid  at the Green Gas Mobility Summit 2025, which marks a milestone with the arrival of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen on Spanish soil for the first time.

In a context in which Europe needs more than 650 hydrogen refueling stations to meet the objectives of the AFIR regulation before 2030, the ACTIVA H2 project proposes a disruptive solution: a compact, modular and affordable hydrogen station, which can be deployed on a large scale in urban and interurban environments in Spain.

The presentation in Madrid is a key step in the project’s roadmap, which begins its deployment with the installation of the first ACTIVA station at the end of 2025 in the Community of Madrid, and includes the commissioning of up to 75 stations along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)  complying with European infrastructure requirements for alternative fuels.

ACTIVA H2 is co-financed by EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, and by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) platform. The project combines technological innovation with a scalable business model, thanks to its “HRS-as-a-Service” proposal that allows hydrogen stations to be rented without the need for large initial investments.

For the first time in Spain, attendees at the Green Gas Mobility Summit 2025 will be able to see up close the BMW iX5 Hydrogen a fuel cell vehicle that will be refuelled via the ACTIVA station. This unit is part of BMW’s global demonstration programme and its participation in ACTIVA reflects the joint commitment to zero-emission mobility based on green hydrogen.

“ACTIVA H2 is an example of how public-private collaboration and institutional support make it possible to transform innovation into industrial reality. We are demonstrating that it is possible to offer an accessible and technically viable refuelling solution to boost the massive deployment of hydrogen in Europe”, says Santiago Ramas, CEO of HVR, who will take part in the panel entitled “Europe’s hydrogen refuelling network: will we meet the targets?” on 26 June at La Nave (Madrid).

“At EIT Urban Mobility, we are proud to support pioneering projects like ACTIVA H2 that reduce the risk of regret investments and provide clearer insight into current and future demand. By accelerating the market readiness of zero-emission transport solutions, and through strong public-private collaboration, this project shows how working together can drive real, sustainable change in our cities.” Adriana Diaz, Innovation Director, EIT Urban Mobility.

At the Green Gas Mobility Summit 2025, companies and institutions will be able to come to the stand to learn all the details about this new type of station and see first-hand the spectacular BMW Hydrogen, a new milestone in locally emission-free mobility powered by green hydrogen.

About HVR Energy

HVR Energy is a leading Spanish company in the sector of hydrogen infrastructure developers for mobility. In 2023, the company put into operation the first green hydrogen generation, storage and supply plant in Madrid. Currently, the company is developing 25 stations in the national territory under a pioneering model of hydroliner “HRS as a service” for transport, called “Activa H2 Project”.
