The Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress (TMWC) is a new global event organised by Fira Barcelona focused on promoting the design and adoption of new sustainable urban mobility models. The event is co-organised by EIT Urban Mobility, and also has the support of important companies and institutions. TMWC is launched to create a global benchmark in the field and going beyond a one-off event, as it will include an online knowledge platform that will be active throughout the year and an innovation hub set to bring the main players in the industry together.
The event counts on EIT Urban Mobility as partner and co-organiser and will be jointly held with Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), the leading tradeshow and congress on smart cities. Tomorrow.Mobility has the initial support of over a hundred companies and institutions amongst which feature the World Bank, the World Economic Forum, the United Nations, Microsoft, Mastercard, ADP (Airports of Paris), the International Association of Ports and Harbours, the Port of Barcelona, Moventia, the RACC and Social Car. The event seeks to tackle the future challenges facing mobility. This is an industry that will be one of the main drivers of future growth, with a market volume of 60,000 million euros in 2027.
Tomorrow.Mobility is the heir of Smart Mobility Congress, the smart urban and interurban mobility tradeshow held alongside the SCEWC since 2016. The new event, which will include a congress and exhibition area, will be held a first pilot edition in November and again in 2022. It will address current mobility challenge areas such as micro mobility (electric scooters, bicycles), active mobility and the public realm, public transport, mobility providers (car sharing, air taxis), the car industry (electric, connected, and autonomous cars), last mile logistics (e-commerce deliveries, delivery drones), smart infrastructures (fleet management, geolocation, and payment systems), the energy transition towards carbon neutrality and digitisation.
The congress, which will be held at the Gran Via venue in parallel with the SCEWC, scheduled for 16-18 November 2021, will also be present throughout the city of Barcelona with the organisation of demos and pilots directly involving citizens.
The annual EIT Urban Mobility Summit will be held as part of Tomorrow.Mobility.
Maria Tsavachidis, CEO of EIT Urban Mobility, who will also be president of the new event, stated: “We are very excited about co-organizing Tomorrow.Mobility. Our collaboration with Fira de Barcelona will help expand the network of innovation for urban mobility in Europe and beyond. Our goal is to foster innovation and transformation towards sustainable mobility, to decarbonise mobility, improve people’s quality of life, and make Europe’s economy more competitive. Bringing together the world´s leaders and frontrunners in sustainable mobility under the umbrella of Tomorrow. Mobility is an important steppingstone towards this goal. It will inspire and create new opportunities for our partners, cities, startups, and their innovations”.
The Chairman of Fira de Barcelona, Pau Relat, has stated that “smart and sustainable urban transport systems will constitute one of the main channels through which the economy and society will develop”, and after thanking companies and institutions for their support he underlined that “with this event we strengthen our commitment to sustainability and the promotion of the SDGs.”
Along these lines, Constantí Serrallonga, General Manager of the trade fair institution, said that “Tomorrow.Mobility is a clear example of Fira’s strategic objective of positioning itself through initiatives with a global projection in innovative sectors with high added value.”
Support from companies and institutions
Together with the private companies, the involvement of the public sector will be another of the pillars of Tomorrow.Mobility, alongside a strategic partnership with EIT Urban Mobility, as critical player in the design of the future of transport, due to our role as the European Partnership responsible for innovation in sustainable urban mobility and more liveable cities.
The smart and sustainable mobility sector will be one of the fastest-growing sectors in the coming years. According to the Allied Market Research study, the global smart mobility market generated around 30,000 million euros in 2019, a figure that is expected to rise to 60,000 million euros by 2027, with growth rates totalling more than 20%. The segments accounting for this potential include on-demand transport services, car sharing, traffic management systems and smart infrastructures.
A 365-days-a-year platform
The objective of Tomorrow.Mobility is to go beyond an event, and in this regard, the launch of the new show will be accompanied by the creation of a digital content platform with a global reach that operates 365 days a year, turning it into the great global stage for urban, sustainable, and smart mobility. This platform will allow access to both live events and à la carte contents divided into themes with the aim of facilitating knowledge transfer. It will also include tools for networking and the training of professionals.
The aim of this new event is to create a legacy in Barcelona that will consolidate it as an international benchmark for sustainable mobility, which is why Tomorrow.Mobility will strive to create a mobility hub in the city that brings companies, start-ups, and institutions together to promote innovation within the sector.
