On 15 June 2026, EIT Urban Mobility and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly accelerate the transition to sustainable urban mobility in Moldova, with a focus on innovation and energy system transformation.

The MoU was signed by Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, and Traian Urban, Director of EIT Urban Mobility Innovation Hub East.

The Moldovan Ministry of Energy is the central authority responsible for developing and implementing national energy policy, including the shift to sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure across the mobility sector.

The MoU sets the stage for collaboration that will accelerate innovation in transportation and mobility, raise awareness of EIT Urban Mobility’s programmes and opportunities, as well as support entrepreneurial activity at the intersection of mobility and energy among Moldovan stakeholders. It is an effort to engage in dialogues and connect Moldovan policymakers, public transport operators, academia and industry with wider European innovative network.

Beyond Moldova, the agreement lays the groundwork for broader cross-regional collaboration with Romania and Ukraine, unlocking the potential to make a significant impact on the transition towards a smarter, cleaner and more connected future for cities across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) countries.

Building strong partnerships with national institutions, coupled with cross-regional experience and expertise exchange, is how we drive collective action for more liveable cities across Europe. This join commitment marks a start towards a very encouraging partnership across the CEE region.
