EIT Urban Mobility brings mobility data insights and corporate mobility law debate to the Global Mobility Call

1 June 2026

EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, will participate in the Global Mobility Call 2026 in IFEMA, Madrid, from 9 to 11 June 2026 and host two dedicated sessions.

As cities and organisations across Europe face increasing pressure to reduce emissions, improve accessibility and optimise transport systems, workplace mobility and data driven decision making are becoming central components of sustainable mobility strategies. Transport accounts for almost one third of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions, making commuting and work-related travel a growing focus of urban mobility and climate policies. (EEA 2025)

Through its sessions at Global Mobility Call, EIT Urban Mobility will bring together public authorities, mobility providers and industry representatives to discuss how organisations can turn policy objectives into practical action and how data can support better urban mobility decisions. Since its creation in 2019, EIT Urban Mobility has supported pilot projects and on-street demonstrations across Spain, collaborating with organisations including EMT Madrid and cities such as Madrid or Las Rozas.  Through these initiatives, EIT Urban Mobility helps cities and mobility stakeholders test, evaluate and scale innovative solutions that contribute to more sustainable and efficient urban transport systems.

Programme highlights

Wednesday, 10 June 12.30 – 13.30h |  Z5A13 – Progress by Performance | “From policy to practice: making workplace mobility work across Europe

Workplace mobility is gaining increasing attention across Europe, not only as a sustainability objective but also as a growing regulatory and organisational priority. Beyond compliance, organisations face the challenge of designing and implementing mobility strategies that support both environmental goals and employee needs.

This interactive roundtable will explore how cities and private organisations can work together to develop mobility strategies that contribute to broader objectives such as accessibility, public health, quality of life and urban sustainability. Discussions will focus on the role of local authorities in supporting workplace mobility through policy frameworks, infrastructure, partnerships and behaviour change initiatives, while sharing practical experiences from different European contexts.

Wednesday, 10 June, 17.10 – 18.00h  |  Z5A13 – Progress by Performance | “From data to decisions: how mobility data is shaping better cities

This session explores how cities are turning mobility data into better decisions—moving from fragmented datasets to actionable insights that improve safety, equity, climate outcomes, and quality of life. Drawing on case studies from European municipalities, we examine how interoperable platforms, mobility observatories, and digital twins integrate data from public transport, traffic sensors, bike and scooter systems, curb activity, and freight flows to inform policy and investment.  This session will explore how cities are transforming mobility data into actionable insights to improve safety, accessibility, sustainability and quality of life. Drawing on examples from European municipalities, speakers will discuss how mobility observatories, interoperable data platforms and digital twins can help integrate information from public transport, traffic management systems, shared mobility services, freight operations and curbside activity.

The discussion will examine how data can support evidence based policy making, investment decisions and performance monitoring, while highlighting practical approaches that cities can adopt to strengthen their analytical capabilities. Moderated by EIT Urban Mobility and the participation of BIRD, City of Komotini, Municipality of Matosinhos, EMT and the IMT – Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes, I.P.
