EIT Urban Mobility and AustriaTech have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in the field of innovative urban mobility. This strategic partnership marks a key milestone in the effort to build more sustainable, efficient and people-centred transport systems across Austria and Central Europe.
As a leading actor in shaping smart, climate-friendly mobility strategies in Austria and beyond, AustriaTech has been following the goal of placing people at the centre of new mobility solutions and helping technological developments to be implemented for the past 15 years. As a 100% subsidiary of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure, AustriaTech accompanies innovation processes, advise on the implementation of national and European guidelines and promote exchange and joint learning between the stakeholders involved at national and international levels. Its goal of bringing politics, industry and research together to make transport more sustainable, efficient and safe perfectly aligns with EIT Urban Mobility’s mission.

A shared commitment to shaping the future of mobility
The MoU reflects a shared vision: to promote innovation that meets the evolving needs of cities and urban regions. EIT Urban Mobility and AustriaTech will work together to raise awareness of new ideas and solutions by jointly participating in or creating workshops, expert sessions, and public events – stay tuned on this one – as well as through shared communication activities.
In addition to fostering knowledge exchange, both partners aim to support the development and implementation of forward-looking mobility projects. The focus will be on promising initiatives, tracking the progress of pilot programmes and working together to improve processes and gathering valuable insights and lessons from ongoing efforts at the regional, national and European levels to share best practices and strengthen the European community.
A further goal of the collaboration is to enhance cooperation among key actors in the mobility ecosystem. By identifying synergies between cities, metropolitan areas, mobility operators, industries and other stakeholders, EIT Urban Mobility and AustriaTech will help scale effective solutions and accelerate innovation on the ground.
Other areas of cooperation that EIT Urban Mobility and AustriaTech have committed to under the three-year agreement are:
- Mutual support in identifying urban mobility challenges and advancing practical solutions
- Connecting Austrian cities and stakeholders with EIT Urban Mobility’s wider European innovation network. Through structured engagement and curated matchmaking, both organisations will help cities tap into EU-funded opportunities, adopt best practices and co-create future-ready transport systems.
- Exchanging knowledge on key policy and technology trends including CCAM (Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility), e-mobility, SUMPs (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans), and Mobility Data Spaces
Driving change through collaboration
By formalising this partnership, EIT Urban Mobility and AustriaTech are sending a strong signal: tackling today’s urban mobility challenges requires collaboration, innovation, and a joint commitment to create long-term impact. Through this collaboration, both organisations aim to expand their reach and amplify their impact across regional and European scales. Together, they aim to support cities in their transition to smarter, cleaner, and more connected transport systems – ultimately improving quality of life for citizens across Europe.
