Barcelona. 7 November 2024 – EIT Urban Mobility is leading the definition and implementation of the participation plan for the New National Mobility Guidelines in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia. This initiative, which will update the guidelines approved in 2006, is being spearheaded by EIT Urban Mobility, which is responsible for presenting and organising the participation of the mobility sector.

The first working session presented the primary document drawn up by the Government of Catalonia. This document outlines the proposed changes and updates to the National guidelines. The session took place in the framework of the mobility exhibition Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress (TMWC), which EIT Urban Mobility co-organises in collaboration with Fira Barcelona. The first working session had a hybrid format and was attended by more than 100 companies and public entities involved in urban mobility. Maria José López, Director General of Transport and Mobility, attended on behalf of the Government of Catalonia, and Martí Massot, Public sector development Manager, led the session on behalf of EIT Urban Mobility.

The New National Mobility Guidelines, as the guidelines that guide mobility in Catalonia, are not only responsive to regulatory changes and new social needs, but also to the evolving habits of citizens, uses of the territory and infrastructures. More importantly, they are designed to align with the 2030 Agenda and the SD (Sustainable Development Goals) of the United Nations. This alignment underscores their effectiveness and their potential to contribute significantly to the global sustainability goals. The new document being worked on is based on 5 significant blocks: urban planning and more inclusive mobility, new sustainable and safe mobility, structuring and accessibility of the territory, the economic potential of the new mobility, and digitalisation and data-based planning.

María Paula Caycedo, Head of the Innovation Hub South at EIT Urban Mobility highlights: ‘For EIT Urban Mobility it is an important milestone to be actively participating in the definition of participation plan of the New National Mobility Guidelines of Catalonia because it allows us to put in value all our expertise in the development of new solutions that advance in new, more sustainable mobility models. Our objective as an institution is to ensure public-private collaboration to build more efficient cities with a higher quality of life thanks to user-centred, comprehensive and truly multimodal transport systems’.
