Las Rozas, Madrid, 23 September, 2025 — The Spanish municipality of Las Rozas has taken another step forward in positioning itself as a hub for innovation and sustainability with the launch of LUCID – Data Intelligence for Cities and Urban Logistics, a European project funded through EIT Urban Mobility’s Main Innovation Call.
Tackling the challenge of urban logistics
LUCID addresses one of the most pressing challenges facing European cities: the congestion and emissions caused by last-mile delivery. The project develops an intelligent platform that integrates public data (such as traffic and urban space usage) with private logistics information. Using advanced analytics and machine learning, the system optimises delivery routes, improves the management of loading and unloading zones, and reduces operational costs.
A key tool created within LUCID is the Routal for Drivers mobile app, designed to help couriers plan their routes more efficiently. The app adapts in real-time to traffic conditions and delivery needs, reducing both costs and emissions.
Las Rozas as a living lab
What makes the project especially significant is that Las Rozas is one of the pilot cities, alongside Prague, where the technology is being tested in real urban environments. These pilots are essential for validating the effectiveness of the solution, collecting accurate data, and adapting the tools to local conditions.
So far, results have been promising:
- More than 3,000 users tested the app across Europe in just four months.
- Nearly 10,000 parcels were delivered through optimised routes.
- Over 50 companies have subscribed to the app, proving its potential beyond the pilot stage.
Las Rozas Innova supports the project in Las Rozas in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation in Logistics and Freight Transport (CITET), Citylogin Iberica, Routal Tech, and PowerHUB, among others.
LUCID was selected in the competitive EIT Urban Mobility Main Innovation Call 2025, which funds solutions capable of transforming how goods circulate in cities through digital, green, and scalable innovations.
The project was awarded funding due to its multinational scope (encompassing Spain, the Czech Republic, and beyond), its realistic approach with pilots in actual cities, its technological maturity, and its strong potential for environmental, social, and economic impact.
The initiative has a total budget of €633,409, covering technology development, pilot testing, and commercialisation strategy throughout this year.
A win for innovation in Las Rozas
LUCID is more than a technology project: it is a strategic win for Las Rozas, marking its success in securing European innovation funding and recognition from EIT Urban Mobility. For residents, the benefits could soon be tangible: less congestion, more efficient deliveries, lower emissions, and a smarter, more sustainable city.
