Hydrogen Call for Cities in Visegrad Group

Event details

Selection of cities in Visegrad Group Countries to be H2CITIES beneficiaries and demonstrators

The H2CITIES project has launched a Call for Expression of Interest for cities in Visegrad Group countries – Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. H2CITIES will support the two selected cities to become hydrogen living labs where at least 5 hydrogen vehicles will be tested and demonstrated. Information sessions will provide an overview of the H2CITIES project, the Call for EOI content, the submission and evaluation procedures, and financing.

Hydrogen adoption is plagued by a circular conundrum: high production cost, low demand, no infrastructure. Additionally, cities often lack knowledge, relations, and capacity to adapt to hydrogen. Thus the ojective of H2CITIES is to break this conundrum and build a replicable roadmap for cities.

About H2CITIES

H2CITIES is an EIT Cross-KIC project bringing together EIT Urban Mobility (lead partner), Climate KIC, and EIT Manufacturing. The three EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KIC) are joined by industry partners ALKE Electric Vehicles, KONTAKT-Elektro, Mobility & Innovation Production.

H2CITIES was presented and funded as a Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) targeted action. Initially the project will prioritise cities within the Visegrád Group. Cities in the Visegrad Group often have ageing energy infrastructure and do not benefit equally from EU funding to modernise energy supply chains. Therefore H2CITIES will focus on orchestrating hydrogen innovation and uptake in Visegrad Group cities and on supporting their capitalisation on the rapidly developing hydrogen economy. Specifically, we aim to ensure the H2 revolution does not exacerbate existing structural and historic disadvantages these countries.

Finally, H2CITIES plans to become a programme supporting the transition to clean transport and accessibility of all citizens. This is the first step of a complex and multi-step transition.

By 2024, H2CITIES will expand its geographics remit based on the initial success of the pilots from Month 24.
