Communities leading change: 18 New European Bauhaus Initiatives for 2025

27 February 2025

Discover 18 freshly launched, citizen-driven New European Bauhaus initiatives across Europe that are transforming urban and rural areas into Beautiful, Sustainable, and Inclusive spaces.

Across Europe, local communities are stepping up to shape their own neighborhoods, proving that community-led innovation is at the heart of the New European Bauhaus movement. From reclaiming urban green spaces to reimagining public spaces through co-design, these bottom-up initiatives show how collective action can create more sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful places to live.

Through the Connect NEB and Co-create NEB programmes, 18 EIT Community New European Bauhaus initiatives are being supported in 2025, each rooted in local communities and grassroots initiatives. Whether transforming schoolyards into food-growing hubs, restoring pedestrian connections in car-dominated neighborhoods, or designing climate-adaptive solutions for industrial zones, this year’s cohort is proving that real change starts from the ground up.

By working hand-in-hand with communities, municipalities, and grassroots organizations, these initiatives turn ideas into action—empowering communities to take ownership of their environment. The EIT Community NEB, led by EIT Urban Mobility and in partnership with EIT Food, EIT Manufacturing, and Climate KIC, is proud to support these trailblazing projects that embody the values of the New European Bauhaus- sustainable, beautiful and inclusive.
