EIT Urban Mobility will have a very active role at the ITS European Congress 2026, whose 17th edition will take place in Istanbul on 27-29 April.
ITS Europe is a unique event in smart mobility and intelligent transport where industry experts, policy makers, academics, researchers and public authorities come together to present real-world solutions, innovations and technologies.
Through high-level expert dialogues, technical sessions, live demonstrations and exhibitions, the congress highlights achievements and advancements in mobility and transport across cities and regions and it shows how innovation is improving everyday mobility and transport.
Organised by ERTICO together with our founding member the City of Istanbul and ISBAK, this year’s edition aims to become the epicentre of Europe’s intelligent transport conversation. From research and pilot projects to concrete real-world deployment of everyday solutions and services, the congress will advance smarter, safer and more sustainable ways of moving people and goods.
EIT Urban Mobility will have a very active role during the event, organising and participating in several sessions, a prominent exhibition presence with a 30 sqm booth (location: E6) and our participation in the Smart Mobility Summit of Cities and Regions.
Sessions with EIT Urban Mobility participation:
- Session ‘Spot the risk, change the street: EIT Urban Mobility in action in Konya’‘ (Wednesday 29/04, 12:25 – 12:45; session 3.6 in Flow track – ITS Arena). Presentation of the lessons learnt during the deployment of the project: SAFELY – EIT Urban Mobility that identified high-risk areas for vulnerable road users, understood their root causes and implemented targeted spatial improvements in Konya Metropolitan Municipality to reduce accidents. What actually changed on the ground in Konya, what worked well and not so well that other cities can learn from.
- Session led by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to present the successful results of the project AI4LIFE thanks to the collaboration between EIT UM, the city Istanbul and ISBAK (ITS Arena – exact day and time coming soon). The project created an AI-based smart intersection management dashboard to reduce congestion by optimising traffic flow and reducing stop-and-go driving conditions, thereby cutting greenhouse gas emissions and reclaiming hours otherwise lost in traffic.
- Additionally, EIT Urban Mobility will moderate the session led by our partner Factual: ‘Closing the safety loop for active mobility: virtuous and vicious cycles in urban cycling networks’ (Tuesday 28/04, 15:30 – 16:30; SIS 34) to explore strategies to enhance cycling safety in urban networks through the analysis and improvement of infrastructure. And we will participate as speakers in the session ‘From detection to prevention: AI-powered safety intelligence for cities’ (Monday 27/04, 14:00 – 15:00; SIS 2) organised by our partner Parabol to discuss how cities can use AI and multi-source mobility data to move from reactive road safety analysis to predictive safety intelligence.
EIT Urban Mobility can offer free innovation passes to the partners of its community (please contact your Innovation Hub for more information).
