How to apply?

  1. Read application instructions and book a language test and prepare your application documents before you apply.
  2. Fill in the application form and upload all application documents to your application form in the EIT Urban Mobility application portal during the application period by the deadline. Remember to follow the document instructions.
  3. Submit your application in the EIT Urban Mobility application portal before the application period closes. 

Application dates and Timelines

The application process is divided into two periods, and only one application per intake is possible.

Period 1: 16 November 2026 – 1 February 2027
Period 2: 1 February 2027 – 15 April 2027

Please note that application period 2 is not recommended for applicants who require an EU study visa due to time constraints.

Admissions requirements

Applications must meet the general eligibility criteria to be considered by the programmes.

To meet the general eligibility criteria, applicants must have:

  • a bachelor’s degree that grants eligibility for master’s-level studies
  • accepted proof of English language proficiency
  • all required application documents submitted by the deadline.


Complete applications that meet the general eligibility criteria are then evaluated by the programmes according to their specific evaluation criteria.

What kind of a Bachelor’s degree do I need?

You are eligible to apply to EIT Urban Mobility master’s programme if you hold a bachelor’s degree.

The bachelor’s degree must:

  • be equivalent to 180 ECTS credits or three years of full-time study;
  • give eligibility to apply for master’s degree studies at a university in the awarding country; and
  • be awarded by a higher education institution recognised as part of the official national education system of the country. The institution must be accredited as a degree-granting higher education institution by the country where it is located or by a relevant international organisation (such as UNESCO).


Only bachelor’s degrees give eligibility for master’s programmes at EIT Urban Mobility Master School.

An exception to this is a ‘long-cycle’ master’s degree that has been granted without a bachelor’s degree. Such a degree can be, for instance, a degree awarded in Finland prior to the adoption of the two-cycle degree system in 2008 or a licentiate of medicine degree.

Are you applying with an incomplete bachelor’s degree?

  • Students in their final year of undergraduate education may also apply and if qualified, receive a conditional acceptance.
  • If you have not completed your studies, please include a written statement from the degree administration office (or equivalent department), confirming that you are enrolled in the final year of your education and giving your expected completion date – which should be before the start of the Master’s programme.
  • If you receive a conditional offer, you must present your degree certificate to your entry university before enrolment at the latest. Please check your faculty’s or school’s graduation schedule to ensure you can meet the deadline given by your entry university.
  • Applicants following longer technical programmes and who have completed courses equivalent to an amount of 180 ECTS, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Please note that only completed studies, for which an official transcript of records has been uploaded to your application form by the application submission deadline, will be considered in the evaluation. Updated transcripts, or studies completed after this deadline, will not be considered.
Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions programme welcomes students from an array of backgrounds and experiences. The programme is ideal for students with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Geoinformation Technology, Urban Planning, Geography and/or Economics. Additional disciplines are welcome, provided students have a solid foundation in quantitative problem-solving and verifiable experience in Programming, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Mathematical Statistics.

 

Smart Mobility Data Science & Analytics

The Smart Mobility Data Science & Analytics programme welcomes candidates who have a solid foundation in analytical problem solving with an eye for detail, as demonstrated by a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.

 

Business Engineering in Urban Mobility

The Business Engineering in Urban Mobility programme welcomes candidates who have a solid foundation in analytical problem solving, as demonstrated by a BSc degree in (Industrial) Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and/or Architecture. In addition, participation in the programme requires 70 ECTS in the fields of Business, Economics and Engineering, of those 70 ECTS, 25 ECTS must be in Business and 5 ECTS in Economics.

All our programmes are taught in English, thus to be eligible to apply, applicants are required to demonstrate their English language proficiency. No methods other than those listed below are accepted to demonstrate your English language skills. Applications without the required proof of language proficiency will be rejected.

Language test results are valid for two years from the date of the test. For 2027 admissions, test results are valid if the test was taken on or after 16 November 2024. The recognised language tests and their minimum score requirements for the EIT Urban Mobility Master School are:

IELTS Academic (www.ielts.org)

Minimum score requirements for IELTS Academic

  • Overall score 6.5 with no section lower than 6.
  • All scores must be from one test date. IELTS One Skill Retake is not accepted.

Only IELTS Academic tests are accepted. General-level tests are not accepted. We also accept IELTS Online (Academic) and IELTS for UKVI Academic test. Please note that the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) only accepts the home edition test if the corresponding local IELTS test centre is closed. Applicants who wish to study at TU/e are recommended not to take the home edition test.

The official IELTS test scores must be received by EIT Urban Mobility Master School Office by the end of the application period. The scores are verified electronically by the Master School Office. The electronic test report must be shared with Aalto University (the host of the Master School Office) via the test administrator’s IELTS Results Service e-delivery.


How to submit your IELTS score

  1. Upload a PDF copy of your IELTS test report to your application form (to “Language proficiency” section), if you have already received the report. Name the file according to the format: IELTS-lastname-firstname.
  2. On your application form, enter your Test Report Form (TRF) number. Enter this number very carefully. The number is required for verifying the scores.*
  3. Share your electronic test report with Aalto University (the host of the Master School Office) via the test administrator’s IELTS Results Service e-delivery.
    – When booking the test, choose Aalto University as the Recognising Organisation to make your score available to Aalto University. The department is “Admission Services”.
    – If you have already taken the test, contact your test centre and request the test administrator to send your electronic test report to Aalto University. See the instructions for sharing your IELTS test report form electronically on the test administrator website.

Your scores will be verified electronically.

* If you receive your TRF number after you have submitted your application, send it by email to [email protected] and request that the TRF number be added to your application form. Your email must be received

  • in application period 1 by 1 February 2027 at 13.00 (UTC +2); and
  • in application period 2 by 15 April 2027 at 15.00 (UTC +3).

TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) (www.toefl.org)

Minimum score requirements for TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test)

  • For a test taken on or after 21 January 2026: total score 4.5 and 4.5 in all subtests: reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
  • For a test taken before 21 January 2026: total score 92 and writing score 22 and other sections score 21.
  • All scores must be from one test date. MyBest Scores is not accepted

We also accept the TOEFL iBT Home Edition test. Only TOEFL iBT tests are accepted. For example, TOEFL Essentials or TOEFL ITP tests are not accepted. Please note that the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) only accepts the TOEFL iBT Home Edition test if the corresponding local TOEFL test centre is closed. Applicants who wish to study at TU/e are recommended not to take the TOEFL iBT Home Edition test. Note that the test administrator ETS does not send expired TOEFL results.


How to submit your TOEFL scores

  1. Request your official score report to be sent from the test administrator to Aalto University (the host of the Master School Office) reporting code 7364 (Score Report Recipient) well in advance of the deadline.
  2. A department code is not required (or you can choose any department). Aalto University will receive all results sent with the reporting code 7364.
  3. Enter your TOEFL iBT Appointment number on your application form (to “Language proficiency” section of the form). The number has 16 digits (e.g. 0000 0000 xxxx xxxx).*
  4. Upload a PDF copy of your TOEFL test report to your application form, if you have already received the report. Name the file according to the format: TOEFL-lastname-firstname.

The scores must be received electronically directly from the test administrator by the deadline. Score reports sent by applicants will not be accepted. It takes about 1 to 2 weeks from sending the score report request for the scores to be received by the Master School Office. Master School Office receives the scores via ETS® Data Manager service. Contact the test administrator if you have questions about score delivery times.

* If you receive your TOEFL iBT Appointment number after you have submitted your application, send it by email to [email protected] and request that the appointment number be added to your application form. Your email must be received

  • in application period 1 by 1 February 2027 at 13.00 (UTC +2); and

Cambridge English Certificates (cambridgeesol.org)

Minimum score requirements for Cambridge C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency

  • C1 Advanced: A, B or C (with no section lower than 169)
  • C2 Proficiency: A, B, C or Level C1 (with no section lower than 169)
  • All scores must be from one test date.

No Cambridge language tests other than C1 Advanced (formerly known as CAE) and C2 Proficiency (formerly known as CPE) are accepted.

How to submit your Cambridge C1 Advance or C2 Proficiency scores

  1. Upload a PDF copy of your C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency results report to your application form (to “Language proficiency” section).
  2. Name the file according to the format: Nameofthetest-lastname-firstname.
  3. Enter your test taker’s ID number (e.g. ABC1234567), and Reference Number (e.g. 173YU0034522) or Statement of Results Number or Verification Number to your application form. The name of the number varies depending on the year the test was taken.*
  4. Log into the language test administrator’s service and share your test results with Aalto University (the host of the Master School Office).

Your scores will be verified electronically.

* If you receive your test ID and verification number after you have submitted your application, send them by email to [email protected] and request that the numbers be added to your application form. Your email must be received

  • in application period 1 by 1 February 2027 at 13.00 (UTC +2); and
  • in application period 2 by 15 April 2027 at 15.00 (UTC +3).

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE A) (pearsonpte.com)

Minimum score requirements for PTE Academic

  • Overall score 68 and writing score 61.
  • All scores must be from one test date.

We also accept PTE Academic Online and PTE Academic UKVI tests. Please note that the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) only accepts online tests if the corresponding local PTE test centre is closed. Applicants who wish to study at TU/e are recommended not to take the online test.


How to submit your PTE A scores

  1. Log in to your PTE account and send your results to Aalto University (host of the Master School Office) in the test administrator’s electronic service.
  2. Enter your Score Report Code on your application form (to “Language proficiency” section).* The Score Report Code can be found at the top of the report under your name. It contains 10 characters that are letters and numbers.
  3. Upload a PDF copy of your PTE A test report to your application form, if you have already received the report. Name the file according to the format: PTE A-lastname-firstname.

  • in application period 1 by 1 February 2027 at 13.00 (UTC +2); and

Exemptions (no English test required)

You are exempt from an English test if all of the following are true:

  • Your degree: You have completed a university degree delivered in English via on-campus, in-person study.
  • Country of study and residence: You completed the degree in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States, and resided in that country during your studies.

  • Recognised institution: The awarding university is a recognised part of the official national education system of the country where it is located (i.e., accredited as a degree‑granting higher education institution by that country or by a relevant international organisation such as UNESCO).

Important notes and edge cases:

  • Offshore campuses: A degree completed at an offshore campus outside the countries listed above does not qualify for exemption, even if the awarding university’s main location is in one of the listed countries.


Documentation requirements:

  • Language of the degree: The language of instruction must be stated unambiguously on one of the following: the degree certificate or its appendix, the transcript of records, or another official document issued by the awarding institution.
  • Exception to this documentation requirement: Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need the language to be stated on the document.
General Requirements

To apply to the Master School programmes, you are required to upload the following documents into the application portal before the deadline:

  1. Degree certificate/diploma
  2. Official and stamped transcript of records
  3. Authorised translations (if your degree certificate and transcript are not in English)
  4. Proof of English Proficiency
  5. Curriculum Vitae
  6. Letter of Motivation
  7. Copy of your passport or official government issued ID with photo and citizenship

 

1 Degree certificate/diploma

If you are currently pursuing your studies, you must provide an official document certifying that you are in your final year. This statement, issued by the degree administration office (or an equivalent department), should confirm your enrollment in the final year of your programme and indicate your expected graduation date.

2 Official and stamped transcript of records

All courses taken must be included. Please scan the front and back of every document – all stamps and signatures must be fully visible.

What does “official” mean
Your transcript must be issued by the university’s official authority (e.g., Academic Registrar’s Office, Examinations Office, or equivalent). Typically, an official transcript of records is signed and, where applicable, stamped by the issuing institution (e.g. controller of examinations, secretary, registrar, dean, or equivalent). An official, digitally signed electronic transcript in PDF format issued by the awarding university is also acceptable.

Unofficial documents, including screenshots from student information systems, e.g., My Studyinfo or similar platforms, and links to such services, are not accepted. Original official transcripts are generally easy to obtain from your institution’s student services department.

Content requirements
Your transcript of records must include the individual courses you have taken, the grades and credits awarded, and the course completion dates. If grades are not shown, upload an additional official document from your university listing the grades for each course. If your institution does not award grades, upload an official explanation of the evaluation system.

Diploma Supplement
You may submit a Diploma Supplement instead of a transcript of records if it includes all required details: individual courses, grades, credits, and course completion dates.

Studies completed at other institutions
If your degree includes studies completed at another higher education institution (e.g. transfer studies), you must submit the required details for those studies (individual courses, grades, credits, completion date of courses). You must submit an official transcript from that institution, unless the information is already included in your main transcript.

This requirement also applies to top-up degrees. You must submit transcripts of records including the required information for the entire duration of all studies on which the top-up degree is based. The combined studies must be equivalent to 180 ECTS credits or three years of full-time study.

3 Authorised translations if your degree certificate and transcript of records are not in English

If your original degree certificate or transcript of records is in a language other than English, you must submit an official translation of the document (in addition to the documents in the original language).

Upload high-quality scanned copies of the authorised translations into English, Finnish or Swedish in PDF format. Name the translation of your degree certificate as: Translation-certificate-lastname and the translation of your transcript of records as: Translation-transcript-lastname.

What is an authorised translation
The translation is official if it has been produced by either the higher education institution that awarded the degree or by a certified/authorised translator. Translations by a certified translator must bear the translator’s stamp and signature. We accept authorised translations from any country.

Diploma Supplement as a translation
A Diploma Supplement cannot replace a degree certificate; a degree certificate is required. A Diploma Supplement in English can be submitted as the translation of the degree certificate, if it includes the student’s name, the name of the degree, the name of the institution awarding the degree, and the date the degree was awarded.

You may submit a Diploma Supplement instead of a transcript of records if it includes all required details: individual courses, grades, credits, and course completion dates.

4 Proof of English proficiency

Please see requirements above.

5 Your CV

Please include the details of your academic and professional background. Name the file according to format: CV-lastname-firstname.

6 A letter of motivation

In the letter of motivation, you showcase your innovative potential by proposing or discussing an entrepreneurial idea. The letter can be addressed to the “Selection Committee”. How you describe your entrepreneurial idea is up to you. You could identify a challenge in your area of interest and suggest products or services to address this problem, insufficiency, or gap. Additionally, we encourage you to include your personal and professional motivations for applying to the EIT Urban Mobility Master’s programme. Please ensure your letter is no longer than two pages. Name the file according to format: Motivation-lastname-firstname.

7 Copy of passport or official government-issued photo ID with citizenship

Upload a high-quality PDF copy of either the personal information page of your valid passport (upload this page only), or an official government-issued photo identification card that shows your citizenship. Name the file according to format: Passport-lastname-firstname (or ID-lastname-firstname).

Note that if your name has changed since your studies and differs on your passport and your educational documents, you must submit official proof of the name change. Upload a copy of an official document issued by a public authority, such as a marriage certificate for a change of family name.

If your official identification card is issued in a language other than English, Finnish or Swedish, you must upload a translation of the document. You may translate it yourself, but the translation must be accurate.

Keep this in mind when you are gathering your documents
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed.
  • Please upload the original version of your degree certificate and transcript of records. If this is not possible, scanned copies (in colour) of your degree certificate, transcript of records and statements should be stamped and signed by the degree administrations office (or equivalent department) of the issuing institution, or by a Notary Public. Applications that are not supported by official documents will not be processed.
  • Name the files according to format: Name of document-lastname-firstname (e.g. CV-lastname-firstname).

Country-specific documentation requirements

Please read the following instructions carefully if you completed your bachelor in the following countries: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Canada or the USA.

 

Pakistan

Degrees awarded in Pakistan need to be attested by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan. All documents are verified online. In order for us to be able to verify your documents the CNIC in your passport and the number on the HEC stamp on your documents need to be clearly visible. Colour copies are accepted but they MUST bear the original HEC stamp and not a copy of the stamp. Each page of the transcript of records as well as the degree certificate has to be stamped and signed by HEC and must include: your name, your father’s name, your personal identity number, the name of the university, and your degree. We only accept documents attested after 1 March 2009, for verification reasons. In case of on-going bachelor studies, the current/latest version of your transcript of records must be stamped and signed the HEC.

 

Bangladesh or Sri Lanka

For degrees/transcripts from Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, an official transcript of records and a certified true copy of the degree must be sent in a sealed envelope directly from the issuing university to our address stated below.

 

Cameroon, Eritrea, Ethiopia, or Nigeria

For degrees/transcripts from Cameroon, Eritrea, Ethiopia or Nigeria, an official transcript of records and a certified true copy of the degree must be sent to us at [email protected] directly from the issuing university. Documents sent in from email addresses outside your university will not be reviewed. You may also choose to have your documents posted from your university directly to our address stated below if you so wish. Please be aware of time and financial aspects of sending documents physically in the post if you should choose this option.

 

Canada or the USA

For degrees/transcripts from Canada or the USA, an official transcript of records must be verified in one of the following ways:

  • Online verification through the issuing university
  • Sent by email from the issuing university/Parchment to [email protected]
  • Sent in a sealed envelope directly from the issuing university to our address stated below.

Participation fees and Scholarships

Participation fees per academic year for the EIT Urban Mobility Master’s programmes are listed below.

Participation fees are payable per semester (€8,000 for non-EU citizens and €2,000 for EU citizens per semester) and are due before the start of each semester. Only payments by bank transfer are accepted.

EIT Urban Mobility offers generous scholarships to attract top talent worldwide. Our scholarships are merit-based and cover the study duration of two years. They include partial participation fee waivers and monthly allowances. The following scholarships are available:

Student ranking is based on a total evaluation of the following criteria:

  • Suitability of acquired bachelor degree for intended study programme;
  • Academic excellence (quality of home university and study success – GPA);
  • Entrepreneurial excellence and innovative potential.

 

There is no separate scholarship application required. When submitting your application to our Master’s programmes you will be asked whether you wish to apply for a scholarship.

Please note that the allowances are paid once per semester, covering the duration of that semester. Payments are made in October for the fall semester and in March for the spring semester. The partial participation fee waiver is applied directly to your tuition fee invoice.

Partner Scholarship Programmes

EIT Urban Mobility partners with COLFUTURO, a Colombian Loan-Scholarship programme that supports students in pursuing postgraduate studies abroad, helping them gain advanced knowledge and contribute to Colombia’s development upon their return.

  • Be a citizen of Colombia.
  • Be admitted to a master’s programme at EIT Urban Mobility Master School and selected as a beneficiary of an EIT Urban Mobility Master School Scholarship.
  • Be selected as a COLFUTURO beneficiary by following the standard application procedures and meeting all eligibility criteria established by COLFUTURO.

EIT Urban Mobility partners with FUNED, a Mexican Credit-Scholarship programme that supports students in pursuing postgraduate studies abroad, helping them gain advanced knowledge and contribute to Mexico’s development upon their return.

Eligibility
  • Be a citizen of Mexico.
  • Be admitted to a master’s programme at EIT Urban Mobility Master School and selected as a beneficiary of an EIT Urban Mobility Master School Scholarship.
  • Be selected as a FUNED beneficiary by following the standard application procedures and meeting all eligibility criteria established by FUNED.

Funding type
  • EIT Urban Mobility Master School: Partial funding + additional monthly allowance of € 2.000 / year.
