Request for proposals: Study on electricity grids in Europe

By the present procurement procedure, EIT Urban Mobility (hereinafter being referred to as “EIT UM”), in joint collaboration with the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (hereinafter being referred to as “ACEA”) and ChargeUp Europe Association (hereinafter being referred to as “ChargeUp”), is seeking professional support for a study on electricity grids in Europe, by appointing one consultancy service (hereinafter being referred to as “Provider”). This document, along with its annexes, constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) issued by EIT Urban Mobility for a potential procurement of services in the field of thought leadership.

The RfP procedure is managed by EIT UM, and the resulting contract is to be between the tenderer and EIT UM.

ACEA: ACEA – ASSOCIATION DES CONSTRUCTEURS EUROPEENS D’AUTOMOBILES, unites Europe’s 16 major car, truck, van and bus makers being the voice of the auto industry: a technological world leader and the backbone of the EU economy. Its members keep Europe on the move, providing diverse solutions for moving people and goods addressing major technology shifts and the changing mobility needs of Europeans.

ChargeUp Europe: ChargeUp Europe is a trade association representing the EV charging infrastructure industry in Europe, working towards the rapid deployment of charging infrastructure across Europe and a seamless charging experience for all EV drivers. ChargeUp Europe’s members are manufacturer of chargers, Charging Point Operators, Electric Mobility Service Providers, and e-roaming platforms.

Objectives of the request for proposals

The main objectives of the research are listed below:

• Estimate the investments needed at EU level to upgrade electricity grids in line with the expected ramp up in electric Light Duty Vehicles and Heavy Duty Vehicles
• Identify solutions, innovations, and regulatory evolutions required to ensure the grid networks can cope with the increasing electricity demand
• Lay out recommendations for the public and private sectors with regards to grid upgrade and investments
