TC05

Develop, trial and commercialise TC05, a retrofit electrostatic filter to capture tyre emissions on LCVs fleets.

Project summary

Tyre wear and non-exhaust emissions (NEEs) are the dirty secret of the transport industry and a significant contributor to urban air and ocean microplastic pollution. Despite targeted policy measures in cities (Euro 7), there has been a consistent rise in NEEs caused by tyre, brake and road wear, especially in electric vehicles.

The Tyre Collective proposed solution is a patented electrostatic filter (TC05) that captures PM from tyre and road wear on the vehicle before it enters the environment. This project focuses on refining and commercialising this retrofit solution for light commercial vehicles.

This includes a fourmonth trial and demo with partners Ringway in the United Kingdom and the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg in France. The project will validate filter performance, streamline logistics and data integration, and quantify environmental impacts at scale.

Project start:

1 January 2025

Project end:

31 December 2025

Budget:

€781,528

Countries

france, united_kingdom

Context

This project addresses tyre wear and other NEEs, a major source of urban air pollution and the second-largest microplastic pollutant in our oceans.

Challenge

The challenge is to scale and commercialise this product across larger public and private fleets, preventing harmful particulates from entering our environment.

Expected outcome

Develop TC05 for commercialisation, conduct trials to improve capture efficiency, and streamline logistics and data integration to improve air quality in our cities.
