Project summary

The SUMPs (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans) project presents a ground-breaking Blended Learning Course aimed at equipping participants with essential skills and knowledge for developing, implementing and assessing effective Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. In today’s rapidly evolving urban environments, addressing mobility challenges is crucial for fostering sustainability and inclusiveness in cities. This course combines flexible online learning modules with in-person workshops and site visits, ensuring a comprehensive and practical approach to urban mobility issues.

The structure of the course is designed to cater to various learning styles, allowing participants to engage with the material at their own pace while benefiting from hands-on experiences. The online modules cover theoretical aspects and best practices in sustainable urban planning, while the in-person workshops facilitate collaborative learning through discussions, group activities, and real-world case studies. Site visits provide an opportunity for participants to observe and analyse successful mobility implementations first-hand.

Collaboration is at the main aim of the SUMPs course. It brings together students, professionals, researchers, and municipal technicians, creating a rich learning environment where diverse perspectives and expertise can be shared. This collaborative ethos enhances the learning experience and empowers communities to develop transport systems that are not only efficient but also inclusive and accessible to all residents. Moreover, the course emphasizes the significance of innovation and the integration of technological, social, and environmental factors into mobility planning. By focusing on these elements, it supports cities in realizing their goals for greener mobility solutions. The SUMPs initiative is not just about immediate training; it aims to scale its methodologies across Europe, fostering a wider movement towards sustainable urban mobility.
