Smart e-cargo bike rental hubs

The readily available e-cargo bikes could be used as an alternative for last-mile delivery, the transport of general goods and even tourism.

Project summary

Brasov, Romania needs to improve urban mobility in the central area of the city and offer sustainable alternatives for current transportation and logistics needs. We propose a pilot for the deployment of Romanian startup Rastel.io’s smart and secure e-cargo bike rental service. Utilising core monitoring and management infrastructure, delivery companies and businesses in the area, as well as residents or tourists can benefit from the solution. The readily available e-cargo bikes could be used as an alternative for last-mile delivery, the transport of general goods and even tourism.
Thus, we aim to kickstart a new vertical, while initiating a smart and innovative approach on e-cargo bike rental service.
The pilot project would demonstrate the feasibility of a completely new option for the Romanian e-cargo bike rental market that does not yet exist.
By the end of the project, there should be clear evidence demonstrating the service’s usability and effectiveness. The e-cargo bikes should be consistently utilised, particularly for last-mile deliveries, whether by delivery operators aiming to reduce operational time during rush hours, or by businesses like restaurants seeking to streamline supply and transport. Additionally, local residents and tourists are anticipated to use the service occasionally for personal needs.
Each trip will help to reduce traffic congestion, minimise air and noise pollution, and also improve mobility conditions in the area. The fleet will require minimal maintenance, as it does not need to be charged by the operators, and the risk of vandalism or damage from adverse weather, like rain, will be limited. Both private entities and individual users are expected to take advantage of the service.
