Premium experience at bus interchanges

Improved bus interchange facilities

Project summary

A restructuring of the public transport network in Cascais in 2021 created a fast express bus line which is now fed by local bus lines picking up travellers from surrounding neighbourhoods. Although the new network is generally much faster, citizens complain that they now must make a transfer. Overall, travellers tend to dislike interchanges, which have a negative impact on the user’s perceived experience. Cascais is seeking to transform the interchange experience into a positive one.

Omniflow’s smart lamppost self-supplies with both wind and solar energy. This enables passenger services at the bus stop to be integrated, including mobile phone charging facilities and low-energy information panels. One of the designs will also include a circular bench around the pole with solar panels incorporated, which the municipality has also requested. Omniflow and the municipality will select several sites in which to implement these smart poles based on a preliminary analysis of the available public space, average number of passengers at different bus stops, and the number of bus lines.

The project pilot will take place at two bus stops and will radically improve the urban furniture thanks to Omniflow’s modern and sustainable solution.
