Monitoring air quality in Sant Joan Despí

Vehicle air and noise pollution data measurement

Project summary

The municipality of Sant Joan Despí needs up-to-date, objective data to measure air quality and determine the most effective course of action. HOPU’s environmental monitoring IoT sensor devices, known as Smart Spot, collect advanced real-time data on air quality and noise pollution. The solution dashboard provides city and municipal authorities with data and insight thanks to its AI-based decision support tool, which highlights required action and associated impacts, and enables their monitoring over time. The Smart Spot sensors collect information on air quality (NO2, CO, SO2, NO and O3), particle matter (PM10, PM2.5, PM1), crowds (Wi-Fi devices detection), energy consumption (W) and noise pollution (30db-130db).

After the project is implemented, the municipality will be able to collect, analyse and visualise a large amount of environmental data in a streamlined way. In 2022, HOPU will work in 62 locations across Europe, including Sant Joan Despí, which will continue to use the HOPU air quality and noise solution when the RAPTOR project ends.

Context

The challenge for Sant Joan Despí is to obtain continuous data on certain pollutants produced by motor vehicles once the Low Emission Zone is introduced.

Challenge

To collect information on air quality, particle matter, noise pollution, etc., so as to measure and monitor the impacts of the Low Emission Zone.

Expected outcome

HOPU will install three devices in strategic locations across the municipality. It will also provide a platform to support decision making on ways to reduce CO2 emissions.
