LEZ Courses

Low Emission Zones

Project summary

Low Emission Zones (LEZs) significantly reduce accidents, pollution, and other negative externalities derived from urban traffic. Moreover, the implementation of LEZs has been mandated by the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law in Spain in 2023.

This project is related to a face-to-face course originally launched in 2021 and scaled in 2022. The aim of the first edition of this course was to provide attendees with the technical knowledge needed to deploy LEZs in municipalities near Barcelona, by learning about existing technologies in the field. In 2021 the course began with an introductory workshop, followed by three face-to-face sessions. It was deemed a success for the target audience, municipalities’ technical staff. Based on the lessons learned from these previous experiences, the third edition is intended to also scale the concept internationally, readapting the course to the Portuguese needs.
