Bikademy

Gamification for encouraging cycling

Project summary

Cities are significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, with urban transportation accounting for a substantial portion. In Europe, daily commuting by car not only increases carbon emissions, but also contributes to traffic congestion, air pollution and public health issues. The need for innovative, data-driven and community-centred solutions to promote sustainable commuting has never been greater.

To address this challenge, Bikademy is expanding its gamified cycling platform with two new tools: Employees’ Clash and Residents’ Clash. These tools are designed to encourage everyday cycling, especially commuting to work, by making it fun, measurable and rewarding. Users track their daily rides through the Bikademy app, collect rewards and generate real-time data on distance covered, number of rides and CO2 saved. The data supports organisations and local governments to achieve their sustainability and health promotion goals.

This project will integrate these tools into Bikademy’s existing platform and test them in real environments:

  • Employees’ Clash will be piloted in partnership with Solvership, a private company based in Zagreb.
  • Residents’ Clash will be implemented with Brod-Posavina County and the City of Križevci, engaging residents in daily cycling initiatives.

The solution combines digital innovation, behavioural change strategies and a strong communication campaign. Real-time dashboards will provide clear insights into environmental impact and community participation, aiding decision-making and reporting for municipalities and businesses.

Bikademy is led by a Croatian team experienced in cycling tourism and urban mobility, supported by local authorities and private sector partners. The project runs aims to showcase the potential of cycling as a practical, scalable, and climate-positive solution. By encouraging a shift to two-wheelers, Bikademy supports greener, healthier, and more liveable cities across Europe.
