Despite substantial investment in infrastructure and mobility management, the people of Helsingborg tend to travel by bicycle less than people in similar-sized cities and in the rest of the region. The city wishes to understand the factors that encourage or discourage cycling, focusing on public behaviour and ways to promote a cycling culture.
The Nudgd Smart Nudges Mobility Platform uses behavioural science and soft incentives to foster active transportation, especially cycling. For this project, the platform will be adapted to support and encourage active forms of school transport among parents and staff as an alternative to using private cars.
This pilot will be ground-breaking, implementing a digital nudging platform that will be used on a large enough scale to influence school mobility. All primary schools in Helsingborg will be included, encompassing 18,000 pupils and more than 1,000 staff. It is hoped that a significant percentage will switch to more sustainable forms of transport during or after the pilot project.
