In this project, the ACTIVA H2 hydrogen refuelling station (HRS) will be tested at a publicly accessible site in the Madrid metropolitan area. The ACTIVA H2 solution is designed as a modular, lease-based hydrogen refuelling solution for fuel station operators, enabling scalable and capital-efficient rollout across Europe.
The Madrid pilot represents the first deployment of ACTIVA H2 in a real-world, public-facing environment. This installation will allow station operators, OEMs, fleet managers, hydrogen suppliers, and public authorities to directly observe and interact with the system. The station will operate at both 350 and 700 bar, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of hydrogen vehicles, and will include enhanced components (such as a chiller unit) to guarantee high reliability under urban operating conditions.
The pilot directly addresses the lack of publicly accessible hydrogen infrastructure in Spain, where existing stations are either private, appointment-based, or limited to 350 bar. By demonstrating operational reliability, simplified permitting, compact design, and commercial viability, the project aims to validate the ACTIVA H2 leasing model and unlock replication with fuel retailers in Spain and beyond.

Lack of publicly accessible, cost-efficient hydrogen refuelling infrastructure is slowing hydrogen vehicle adoption and market growth in Spain.
The project will deploy a modular, publicly accessible 350/700 bar hydrogen station in Madrid to demonstrate commercial viability, reliability, and simplified integration for fuel retailers.
The project will validate a hydrogen refuelling station that meets European regulations and that can be easily installed at existing service stations or small industrial places, thereby optimising implementation costs and accelerating the deployment of hydrogen infrastructure.
