How often do you feel unsafe while waiting for the bus in the dark or cycling along a busy street? These moments of insecurity affect many of us on a daily basis. By addressing a diversity of safety needs in urban design and transport planning, we can create environments where everyone feels secure and included. This not only saves lives but also promotes greater social and economic participation, equity and inclusion.
In this webinar, we will examine how reducing speed limits and redesigning public spaces can enhance accessibility. Additionally, we will look at how rethinking transport systems to address the needs of women and marginalised groups can help create safer, more equitable transportation networks.
The presentation of the “Better Mobility Trend Report“ will give insights into the current status of inclusive mobility innovations in cities.
Drawing from the experience of Helsinki, which has successfully implemented Vision Zero measures and prioritised mobility for all, lowered speed limits and created more balanced spaces, we will highlight the benefits of inclusive mobility solutions and urban design choices. From well-lit public areas to reliable transport services and safe cycling infrastructure, such solutions improve accessibility and ensure that vulnerable groups are empowered to move freely.
