“Healthy and Sustainable City - The Smart City as a platform for technological and social innovation".

Event details

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, most urban studies, smart city planning and design encompassed a broad theoretical effort, which emphasised advanced approaches in the areas of high technology, smartness and multicultural cities that target well-being and liveability for residents and sustainability. However, the current circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic have demonstrated the need for change in our smart cities’ development. Many cities do not have sufficient information or effective digital and smart technologies that could help mitigate the worst impacts of the crisis or prevent another one from happening. As we move beyond the crisis, we need to focus on what can and should be changed to re-evaluate and reimagine the way cities are built, maintained, and lived. In addition, we would need our cities to have a readiness and a resilience plan to be ‘smarter’ and ‘safer’.
