The project aims to implement automated depots for public transport vehicles in two application contexts: large urban buses (12 metres) in EMT Madrid Carabanchel depot (Madrid); and small shuttles (6 passengers) in Tecnocad facilities in Turin (Italy).
Activities will allow the implementation of automated driving on demonstrator vehicles along with the mapping and digitalisation of depot infrastructure. In addition, an algorithm will be introduced to optimise the scheduling of depot operation (charging, servicing and maintenance).
The two case studies will share the same approach.
Expected benefits are an improvement in efficiency in terms of resource allocation and number of missions, due to the optimisation of operation scheduling; a reduction in costs related to maintenance and servicing; better fleet control and management due to full monitoring and prediction of vehicle states; and an increase in safety due to the repeatability of operations and the reduction of collisions.

Across Europe, 10% (around 105,000) of bus driver positions are unfilled (IRU, 2023) and 3,300 hours per month are wasted in manoeuvring in each depot.
ADEPT implements autonomous driving for vehicles, digitalisation of depot infrastructure and the deployment of centralised optimal scheduling with an integrated fleet and depot-agnostic architecture.
Driver downtime (↓3-5%)
Vehicle idle time (↓ 5-8%)
