The Portugal Smart Cities Summit 2026 is an annual international gathering of city leaders, urban planners, policymakers, researchers, businesses and civil society, showcasing practical solutions for more sustainable, resilient and inclusive cities through plenaries, thematic tracks, workshops, exhibitions and networking.
At this year’s summit, EIT Urban Mobility will be present with a dedicated booth (3C09), where attendees can meet the team, explore ongoing projects, and learn more about funding opportunities and innovation partnerships.
EIT Urban Mobility will also organise and moderate two sessions addressing two of the most pressing challenges in urban mobility today: mobility data and urban logistics.
Closed session | 13 June, 09:30 – 12:00
Urban logistics at a turning point: how innovation can enable scalable solutions
Cities face a growing paradox: citizens expect the convenience of instant delivery while demanding more liveable, sustainable and less congested urban environments. Despite rapid technological progress, many logistics innovations still struggle to scale beyond pilot phases.
This closed-door session will bring together public authorities, logistics operators and innovation stakeholders to explore how innovation can become a true enabler of scalable urban logistics. Building on insights from the Urban Logistics Special Interest Group (SIG), the discussion will highlight key barriers—such as limited freight visibility, fragmented operations, gaps in data governance and regulatory constraints—and identify the conditions needed to overcome them.
The session will follow an interactive fishbowl format, encouraging participants to actively contribute, exchange experiences and engage in open discussion. Attendees will leave with practical takeaways on how to foster collaboration and move from isolated pilots to scalable solutions.

From fragmented data to actionable insights: building mobility observatories for cities
Cities across Europe are working to reduce car dependency and shift towards more sustainable mobility patterns, yet many face a fundamental challenge: how to effectively measure progress.
While large volumes of mobility data are already being collected—from traffic flows to public transport use and active mobility—this data often remains fragmented across systems and departments. Without integrated tools and harmonised indicators, it becomes difficult to monitor progress, assess policy impact or communicate results.
This session will explore how mobility observatories, shared data platforms and interoperable systems can help cities turn fragmented data into actionable insights. By bringing together cities, data experts and innovation actors, the discussion will showcase how data can support evidence-based decision-making and accelerate the shift towards more sustainable mobility.
Moderator: Martí Massot, Regional Director, Innovation Hub South
