An intelligent transport platform powering the future of road freight
Road freight accounts for approximately 75% of inland goods transport across Europe. With the EU prioritising TEN-T freight corridors and multimodal hubs, connected and efficient logistics networks are more critical than ever. Yet the sector remains highly fragmented, with over 586,000 road freight enterprises operating across the EU-27. In this landscape, many smaller carriers lack the resources to embark on the digital transition needed to reduce emissions and address inefficiencies such as empty runs, poor route planning, and manual administrative processes.
Meight, a Portuguese logistics-tech startup, is making the digital transition accessible to all road freight companies, with a particular focus on small and medium operators. Meight’s Intelligent Transport Platform enables seamless digitalisation for carriers of all sizes, integrating booking, dispatch, route planning, live tracking, invoicing, reporting and more into a single cloud-based system. Meight helps operators scale sustainably, reduce emissions, and prepare for the future of intermodal, connected logistics, directly supporting EIT Urban Mobility’s mission to drive CO₂ reductions and accelerate the transition to more sustainable mobility systems.
Highlights of why we invested in Meight
- Targeting the under-digitised majority of freight carriers: Meight offers tools that are affordable, practical, and built for real-world trucking operations. They are also backed by free implementation support and seamless integration with existing systems to ensure frictionless adoption, making advanced digital capabilities accessible even to small and mid-sized carriers.
- Comprehensive vertical software solution tailored for road freight: Meight offers an all-in-one, cloud-based platform covering booking, dispatch, route planning, live tracking, invoicing, reporting and more, eliminating the need for fragmented tools and disconnected workflows.
- Shaped by operational reality: Through close partnerships with freight companies, Meight continuously refines its platform to reflect the complexity and rhythm of daily trucking operations.
- Empowering drivers: the Meight Driver App uses gamification, real-time coaching, and performance feedback to support professional drivers in operating more efficiently and safely.
- Patented technology that reduces emissions by optimising operations: Meight’s intelligent, data-driven solution enables road freight operators to reduce carbon emissions by up to 20% and cut fuel costs, while supporting the transition to future-proof technologies such as electric heavy commercial vehicles.
- Enabling EU policy compliance: The platform aligns directly with the eFTI Regulation helping operators transition to paperless, machine-readable freight documentation ahead of the 2027 mandate.
As Anna Burgués, Investment and Portfolio Manager at EIT Urban Mobility, noted:
“The transition to smarter and more sustainable freight transport must include fleets of all sizes. Meight focuses on an underserved market of small and medium operators that often struggle to adopt new technologies. By delivering accessible, easy-to-use digital tools, Meight helps these businesses modernise, remain competitive and continue operating successfully in an increasingly complex logistics environment.”
An Intelligent Transport Platform built for Europe’s freight reality
Meight is a Portuguese logistics-tech startup, founded by Luis Mendes and António Reis, that emerged from clear insight: a large portion of Europe’s road freight sector is composed of smaller, often owner-managed carriers who need digital tools that are practical, affordable, and easy to adopt, without requiring dedicated IT teams or complex implementation projects. Having raised €3.4 million in funding the company has grown into a trusted partner for operators across Europe, serving over 260 million kilometres of freight journeys with its Intelligent Transport Platform (ITP).
End-to-end transport workflows in one platform
Meight brings what typically sits across multiple disconnected systems into one cloud-based environment, with distinct modules that cover the full workflow from planning to execution and optimisation. Meight Manager Pro acts as a central logistics workspace, enabling teams to plan, monitor, and optimise transports in one place.

On the road, the Meight Driver App supports drivers with real-time navigation, documentation, and direct dispatching in a single interface, enabling smoother coordination between drivers and dispatchers. To connect operations to the wider digital stack, Meight Connect enables data integration and analytics across existing IT systems, helping operators translate operational data into actionable insights. And when capacity needs to be expanded quickly, Meight Exchange Pro provides a private freight exchange that helps logistics providers coordinate capacity and match loads more efficiently.

Across the ITP, Meight positions AI-native automation at the core, using intelligent telematics and machine learning to support data-driven decision-making. The platform analyses driver behaviour, vehicle telemetry, and historical journey data to provide predictive insights on fuel consumption, identify inefficiencies, and support continuous performance improvement, improving Revenue Per Kilometre (RPK) within one seamless workflow.
With its patented fuel‑saving technology and intelligent transport platform already used by carriers across Europe, Meight is pushing the boundaries of applied research and innovation in real‑world freight operations, delivering solutions that are not only cutting‑edge but proven in daily use.
The impact for the business using Meight’s solutions is noticeable, with carriers achieving return on investment in as little as 1.5 months, thanks to fuel savings, reduced administrative burden, and better asset utilisation.
Crucially, Meight’s “carefree” model – which includes free setup, hands-on training, ongoing maintenance, 24/7 expert support, and secure cloud infrastructure – removes the technical barriers that typically prevent small and mid-sized carriers without IT departments from adopting advanced digital tools.
The company continues to expand its capabilities, with MeightAI Agents and a Freight Calculator on the horizon. Tools designed to further automate and optimise workflows and give carriers better data-driven insights as AI technology evolves.
Regulatory context: eFTI and Europe’s move to paperless freight
Europe is turning “paperless freight” from an efficiency ambition into a common operating standard. Under the electronic freight transport information Regulation(EU) 2020/1056, known as eFTI, Member State authorities will be required to accept freight regulatory information shared electronically via certified eFTI platforms, with full application from 9 July 2027 and a preparation phase beginning January 2026.
The eFTI regulation represents a fundamental shift in how freight compliance will work across Europe, complementing the transition to eCMR (electronic Consignment Note). For businesses, the regulation is expected to save €1 billion annually in administrative costs. For authorities, it means faster, more accurate compliance checks and better data for policy monitoring.
But the regulation also creates a challenge: thousands of carriers must digitise their operations in the next two years, and many lack the resources or technical capacity to do so. Meight is well positioned to meet this moment, offering an affordable, ready-to-deploy platform that satisfies digitalisation requirements while delivering operational value from day one.
Looking ahead
EIT Urban Mobility recognises the value of Meight’s Intelligent Transport Platform in digitising road freight operations seamlessly and effectively, addressing the needs of both managers and drivers to run optimised operations that support more sustainable mobility systems. By enabling integrated, connected, and efficient logistics ecosystems, Meight is helping to build the digital infrastructure Europe’s freight transition requires.
