Parede is an old town in the municipality of Cascais. The centre of Parede, mostly along Avenue da República, is a dynamic area thanks to its local commerce and services. It has narrow pavements and high pedestrian density. Several issues arise from high numbers of local car users and heavy through traffic. The city council is planning to introduce some traffic restrictions in the area. However, this will require alternative solutions enabling residents, especially older people, to access local businesses and services, including the nearby train and bus stations.
OpenMove will deploy its platform to manage demand-responsive transport schemes, thereby supporting the mobility of the older population in Parede by meeting their transportation needs. The solution includes:
• a management dashboard for stakeholders to operate the on-demand transport scheme, create bus stops, oversee journeys, manage users’ bookings, manage operators’ profiles and access rights to perform daily operations;
• an app for drivers to view the boarding list, update it when passengers board the bus, and view the list of stops and reservations;
• a web platform for users to book a free-of-charge ride choosing pick-up/drop-off locations and times.
The project pilot will implement a demand-responsive bus with 17 seats + one seat reserved for people requiring special assistance. There will be 28 bus stops, and a service operating for eight hours from Monday to Friday.
