deployEMDS: Open opportunities to create a common European mobility data space

Co-funded by the EU Digital Europe Programme, the deployEMDS project aims to create a common European mobility data space and foster a broad ecosystem of data providers and users. This initiative will make it easier to adopt common building blocks and contribute to the development of innovative services and applications. Sixteen use cases from nine EU countries will support this project. The European mobility data space (EMDS) will provide a framework for interlinking and federating ecosystems, and deployEMDS will support this initiative. EIT Urban Mobility is one of the proud partners of this initiative.

The deployEMDS project implements 9 local pilots across Barcelona, Budapest, Flanders, Île-de-France, Lisbon, Milan, Sofia, Stockholm, and Tampere, featuring 16 use cases focusing on data for mobility planning, public transport operation, multimodality, and specialty travel information.

New opportunities for EIT Urban Mobility partners

There are new opportunities for EIT Urban Mobility partners to become part of the initiative: The Innovation and Scaling Group and the deployEMDS Network of Follower Cities and Regions:

The Innovation and Scaling Group

develop new innovative use cases in mobility data sharing, promote knowledge exchange and peer learning on mobility data spaces

The project has started working on establishing the Innovation and Scaling Group (ISG).  The ISG aims to bring private stakeholders together with partner cities to develop new innovative use cases in mobility data sharing, promote knowledge exchange and peer learning on mobility data spaces. It also offers a platform for private actors to contribute their perspectives to shaping standards and developments of a common European mobility data space.

All EIT Urban Mobility partners interested in joining the ISG are welcome to attend the introductory webinar on 23 April, 13:30-14:30 CEST, and submit their application form here.

Additionally, they can find more information in the following link

deployEMDS Network of Follower Cities and Regions

The deployEMDS Network of Follower Cities and Regions is a group designed to engage with external local and regional public entities interested in shaping the future of the common European mobility data space by supporting the development of the deployEMDS project. Targeted at local and regional public authorities & PTOs, members have the opportunity to contribute to the development of better mobility data policies and standards within the EU, learn from leading cities about the implementation of tailor-made mobility data solutions, participate in targeted capacity-building activities focused on data spaces and governance, and collaborate with established industry players and platforms to address real-world mobility challenges.

Interested?

Sign up for the introductory webinar on 22 April, 14:00-15:00 CEST and submit your application form to join the deployEMDS Network of Follower Cities and Regions.

The deployEMDS project kicks-off at TMWC 2023

  • The project aims to contribute to the development of the European Mobility Data Space (EMDS) and it is built upon the groundwork laid by the preparatory action PrepDSpace4Mobility and will run for 36 months.
  • The project is led by ACATECH. EIT Urban Mobility is one of the partners of the project, together with more than 40 European entities.
  • The project will kick off during TMWC in the session “Data Revolution in Motion: deployEMDS Transforming Mobility”.

Barcelona, 30 October 2023 – In an era where digitalisation is reshaping industries and societies at an unprecedented pace, the European Union (EU) continues to champion initiatives that drive innovation, competitiveness, and digital transformation. Among its latest endeavours is the deployEMDS project, an ambitious and forward-looking venture that propels Europe to the forefront of the global digital landscape. Funded by the EU, this project holds immense potential to revolutionise how we engage with technology and harness its benefits. The deployEMDS project wants to develop innovative services and applications and support policymaking by making data available, shareable, and reusable for sustainable urban mobility indicators (SUMI) and traffic and travel information in urban and regional areas.

The project aims to contribute to the development of the European Mobility Data Space (EMDS), as outlined in the Data Strategy and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy of the European Union. EMDS will be designed and operated in full compliance with existing EU legislation related to mobility and transport. Building upon the groundwork laid by the preparatory action PrepDSpace4Mobility, funded under the Digital Europe Programme, the deployEMDS project’s primary objective is to facilitate creating and deploying an operational Data Space. This Data Space will enable participants to provide data in machine-readable formats and facilitate secure and controlled data sharing. The project will run for 36 months.

The project will actively support real-life implementation projects across nine cities and regions, including Barcelona (ES), Île-de-France (FR), Milan (IT), Lisbon (PT), Flanders (VLO), Sofia (BG), Stockholm (SE), Tampere (FI), and Hamburg (DE). These initiatives will focus on developing innovative services and applications while assisting in policymaking by sharing and reusing data. This will be accomplished using a shared technical infrastructure and governance mechanisms.

Within the deployEMDS project, EIT Urban Mobility will work with other partners to implement common governance mechanisms and develop tools for legal compliance. The project supports policymaking by contributing to the availability, sharing, and re-use of data for Sustainable Urban Mobility Indicators (SUMI) and traffic and travel information in urban and regional areas.

The DeployEMDS project represents a significant step forward in Europe’s quest for digital transformation, innovation, and competitiveness. As the EU continues to invest in this ambitious initiative, the digital future of Europe is poised to be brighter, more secure, and more resilient than ever before. By fostering technological advancements, nurturing digital sovereignty, and promoting economic growth, deployEMDS sets the stage for a more prosperous and technologically advanced Europe in the years to come. The future of mobility demands fresh and innovative solutions that enhance our urban experiences. But these solutions are only possible with secure, transparent, and efficient data sharing. In a world where information is king, data sharing is the catalyst for groundbreaking innovations that will shape the way we move in cities.

Data Revolution in Motion: deployEMDS Transforming Mobility
The kick-off session of the project will take place during the Tomorrow. Mobility World Congress in Barcelona
(07 November, 12:30 – 13:15, Tomorrow Mobility room)

Supported by EU legislation and the Digital Europe Programme, deployEMDS will pioneer data spaces in 9 regions. With 20+ use cases, this initiative will enhance secure data sharing for a trusted European data ecosystem. deployEMDS Open Session will kick off the initiative and will invite the audience to explore the future of mobility data. Experts from across the public and private domains will provide insights from real-life projects using transformative concepts. A key discussion topic will be how data reshapes sustainable mobility and what the data space concept means for urban data management.
